1. Prepare your identity documents

You will need the following documents based on your type of leasing in order to rent a property in Qatar:


  • Resident permit (QID)
  • Passport copy
  • Cheque book
  • Employment certificate 

Individuals without QID

  • Letter from their employer stating that the RP/QID is under process
  • Employment certificate
  • Rental security deposit
  • First month rent to be paid in cash

Corporate leasing is when companies lease for their employees

  • Company’s commercial registration 
  • Company’s trade license
  • Authorised signatory’s QID
  • Resident/tenant’s QID/passport
  • Contact details of a coordinator

2. Set a budget for your property type

Decide how much you want to spend on your rental. This will help speed up your property search and make sure you are financially prepared for various associated running costs.

Pay attention to what constitutes the monthly rent. Utility bills are not always included, and some landlords may request advance payments that cover a number of months.

3. Research and consult before making an offer

Consult a local real estate agent who can advise you on the best way to find a rental home that meets your criteria. They should be able to share all the property types available to you:

  • Villas in compounds: These come with entrance gates, small gardens, and communal areas like community centres, swimming pools, and children’s playgrounds
  • Standalone villas: These are bigger than those in compounds and come with bigger private gardens and swimming pools
  • Apartments: You can choose from various sizes between one and four bedroom apartments, most of which come with a lobby, gym, and swimming pool
  • Serviced apartments: These are fully furnished and benefit from housekeeping as well as a wide range of facilities and personalised services

Have your identity documents and security deposit prepared, so you can take the property off the market quickly once you’ve found your new home.

4. Register your tenancy

Once the contracts have been exchanged and payments have been handed over, your landlord will need to register the tenancy with Municipality. To do this, you will need to provide a copy of your tenancy contract, a copy of your landlord’s ID, and a copy of the title deed.
